The Institute's tasks include researching the history and culture of Jews – and the related constructs – within the relevant historical boundaries from the Middle Ages to the present day, as well as editing pre-modern primary sources, publishing and lecturing, university teaching, citizen science, school projects and commemorative culture activities.
Since 2018, the Injoest has been setting |Stones of Remembrance| for the victims of the Shoah at the destroyed IKG St. Pölten. Its |virtual memorial book| is a contact point for international enquiries. The Institute manages the Lower Austrian content for the |"Digital Remembrance Landscape" (DERLA)| and also represents it for |erinnern.at|. Injoest provides scientific advice on exhibitions and events for the |Former Synagogue|, which will reopen in 2024 as a cultural centre of the NÖKU.
The Institute for Jewish History in Austria (INJOEST) has been associated with the |Institut für österreichische Geschichtsforschung| (IÖG at the University of Vienna) since 2011. Our research projects are thus integrated into the task profile of the IÖG. The scientific director of Injoest, PD Dr Martha Keil, is responsible for carrying out these tasks. The legal entity of Injoest is the non-profit organisation of the same name.
In addition to the scientific and commercial management, the institute currently employs seven members of staff.
